The Crowned Cranes
This bird comes to us from faraway lands—the savannas and marshes of Africa (south of the Sahara). There, they nest near water sources, and naturally, in Cigoland, you’ll find them near a water source.
Whether you’re strolling through the aviaries or riding in a jalopy, magnificent, colorful, and majestic birds await you. And with a little luck, you’ll hear their incredible song, which sounds just like a trumpet.

Unlike most cranes, the Crowned Crane can perch in trees! It has a long hind toe that helps it grip branches more securely. Take a look at its legs—you’ll discover one of its secrets there.
The chicks are amazing, too: just a dozen hours after hatching, they’re already able to swim, and they start feeding the very next day. For crowned cranes, the journey toward independence begins very early indeed!
